A joint party mainly for the kids but with a small group of parents and friends
can work extremely well both for adults and the younger ones. A good example
was one that was
a black tie do at a local hotel - with buffet and disco organised by the hotel and limited
free drinks provided followed by a pay bar. Friends from University slept on the floor and a couple
of minibuses were laid on to get to and from the hotel. The hotel didn't charge for hire
of the room and most don't if you have a buffet for reasonable numbers. The hotel
also offered discounted room rates for those who wanted to stay.
Joint party
Another example was a joint party between three friends and their families who had birthdays
near one another. This was a hotel and disco hire again, but great fun with lots of mixing between
the guests! This is a great idea because for the same amount of money from the groups
concerned you can lay on a more impressive party, with more people, better entertainment
and food.
Take over the club
Lots of clubs offer the ability to take over the club at limited cost if you are
going to invite enough friends. If your children just want to invite everyone, then this
is a good bet. They can give tickets to everyone, the club provides its usual
entertainment, polices it, and makes their money from the bar.

18th & 21st Presents
Finding the right gift for an 18th or 21st is quite difficult, but here are some ideas
from laterlife visitors.
At this time most kids are thinking of getting a car, or bike, so you can contribute to
insurance costs or licensing or even to the cost of the vehicle itself.
A personalised number plate
is another idea if you want to splash out - something they can use for years to
come!
Make the party the major gift - not only does this cut down on wrapping paper, but you
can also involve your son or daughter in planning the party to make sure you don't do
anything deemed 'uncool'
Paying towards a holiday, if appropriate, is also a good way to not only ensure that
your kids enjoy themselves, but to get some time to yourself as well!
You obviously know best what it is that your
offspring wants most, so contributions towards
making that dream a reality are always welcome. |
